Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the DC Rollergirls Warehouse

Hosted by the DC Rollergirls & Charm City Rollergirls Officiating Crews

Have you ever considered officiating flat track roller derby? Are you a current roller derby official (skating or non-skating) wanting to work on your skills? Are you a skater looking for scrimmage opportunities? If the answer to any of these is YES, then we want to see you at the DC Rollergirls Warehouse on Sunday, July 28! See the full schedule of events below.

10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: DMV Area Officials Open House (Free!)Have you ever considering officiating Flat Track Roller Derby (on skates or off)? Do you live in the DC Metro area? Come out to this DC Metro Area Open house, where you can learn about officiating this amazing sport and how to join up with one of the many local roller derby leagues (we have local leagues all the way from Baltimore, to Fredericksburg, to Charlottesville and all in between!). This event is perfect for avid fans, current skaters looking to try officiating, and for friends and family of current Roller Derby players looking to join in the fun. Interested parties must be at least 18 to participate. Interested parties are also welcome to observe an introductory officials clinic in the same location that will begin right after the Open House.

11 a.m. – 6 p.m.: DMV Area Officials Clinic and Training Scrimmage
Calling all DC Metro Area officials! Need to work on your officiating skills? Want to (hopefully) learn some new skills? Then check out the Officiating Clinic hosted by the DC Rollergirls and Charm City Rollergirls Officiating Crews! We’ll be breaking the day into three different sessions, so you can pick and choose which parts you want to attend. Each session will be $5, so if you attend all three, $15 total for the day. RSVP or ask questions on Facebook, and get tickets to sessions here.

  • Session 1 – Officiating 101 Skills – 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Focused on officiating (both skating and non-skating) skills for newbies just getting into the world of Roller Derby
  • Session 2 – Officiating 201 Skills – 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Builds on the 101 skills to take your officiating to the next level (again for both skating and non-skating officials)
  • Session 3 – Officials Focused Training Scrimmage – 4 .m. – 6 p.m.: We’ll be hosted a full black & white scrimmage, but the focus will be on training officials and ensuring everyone gets to try new positions, with feedback! The general idea will be for officials to do a position for 2-3 jams, then get feedback on how they did, then get back on the track

For those joining for the whole day, we will be providing some snacks between sessions. Attendance is limited, so make sure to RSVP by July 25 and pay in advance!

4 p.m. – 6 p.m.: DMV Area Black & White Officials Training Scrimmage (for skaters)
Calling all DC Metro Roller Derby players! Do you love playing Roller Derby? Do you love having awesome officials at your game? If so, then help us out at our training event by participating in the Black & White scrimmage! We’ll be training new officials and we need players so we can do game type training. We are looking for two full teams to scrimmage for approx two hours. We’ll be playing 2-3 jams in a row, then taking a pause to swap officials around to different positions. This is a great scrimmage opportunity for skaters of all levels, but you must have passed your WFTDA minimum skills. Space is limited for this scrimmage, so make sure to RSVP and pay in advance! Cost: $10. First whistle at 4 p.m., doors open at 3:30.

RSVP and ask questions on Facebook and pay in advance here.
