Learn to Skate or Improve Your Basic Skills at DC Rollergirls Boot Camp
DC Rollergirls Boot Camp welcomes competitive people from all walks of life who can dedicate the time and energy it takes to become a roller derby skater. Our Boot Camp will teach you the necessary skating basics and get you into derby form to prepare you for the more advanced derby skills like giving and receiving hits or executing strategies. To join Boot Camp, you must be at least 18 years old and have health insurance, and fill out the form to join the league as an Affiliate Skater.
Having an athletic or skating background is not required: weekly Boot Camp sessions will teach new and inexperienced skaters the fundamentals of flat-track roller derby and help you build strength and confidence as a skater. If you have a skating background and want to join derby, we can provide you the derby specific training to get you ready for playing the game. You should be ready to work! Boot Camp sessions will include off-skates warm-up and workouts, dynamic stretching, and on-skates drills and skills lead by our experienced group of trainers. Derby is a very physically demanding sport, so you working on general endurance and strength training off-skates outside of Boot Camp will help you improve on the track. Things like squats, lunges, leg lifts, crunches/planks, and push-ups will work some of our most commonly used muscle groups. Also, endurance training through running, biking, and other activities will be a great way to start. Whether your goal is to become a bad-ass rollergirl or to change up your fitness routine, DC Rollergirls Boot Camp will help you get there.
